Concerned by a recent brush with whooping cough in my family, I was complaining to my colleagues about the vaccination options and whether they are really the best solution. I’ve always been pro-vaccination, so that’s not the issue, but I was unsure why so many people were getting whooping cough when we have such a prevalent immunisation campaign.
‘Why don’t you investigate it?’ my editor suggested it. So I did. Although I write and edit a medical website, doctorportal, this was my first article for the Medical Journal of Australia InSight website.
